Description

This is the Beretta M1918 or Model 1918, A Submachine Gun produced by the Kingdom of Italy as the "Successor" of the Double-Barreled "Pistol Chambered LMG" Villar Perosa M1915. This SMG can be considered to be the first "conventional" submachine gun to be ever issued to the troops, as, according to some sources, its issue predates that of the more famous Bergmann MP18 submachine gun only by several weeks

The gun uses delayed blowback action, in which the delay of the initial opening of the bolt is achieved by rotation of the bolt, through the bolt handle that slides against the inclined part of the cocking handle slot. Firing is from open bolt, in full automatic mode only. Feed is from top-mounted box magazine, ejection is to the bottom. An ejection chute is added to the bottom of the stock to protect firer's left handle from hot spent cases, which are ejected from the gun with considerable force. The sights are offset to the left to clear the overhead magazine. The muzzle can fitted with integral folding bayonet

The gun saw light service in the WW1 theater as the Kingdom of Italy Stormtroopers called "Arditi" are sometimes Issued with it instead of Mannlicher Carbines. The Gun License was also bought by Argentina and Pakuningratan, each named "Hafdasa C4" and "PPOM PS-18" Respectively. In Argentina it was made by Hispano-Argentina Fábrica de Automóviles, and In Pakuningratan it was made by "Pabrik Persendjataan Otomobil dan Mesineri Pakuningratan".
In Pakuningratan the gun is well known as "Bredet" from the Onomatopoeia (Phonetic Imitation) of the Gun when it shoots, or as "Bedil Nyerbu" from the role of the gun [Bedil = Rifle (slang) , Nyerbu = to Assault, Assaulting], The name PS-18 is designation for "Pistol Serbu" or in German "Sturmpistole". The PPOM uses "Pistol Serbu" to avoid Confusion with the Bergman "MP" as "Pistol Mesin" or "Maschinenpistole"
The Gun even still saw service in their WW2 Campaign against Imperial Japan.
